THE HISTORY OF THE OMEGA LIFE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM

At the request of Grand Basileus Bro. Herbert Tucker, National Executive Secretary Bro. H. Carl Moultrie I recommended in his report to the 41st Grand Conclave in Atlanta, GA the institution of a life Membership Program. This was the very beginning of the life membership program in 1954.

The Life Membership Program was eventually voted into law by the Grand Conclave of 1958 in Cleveland, OH. In those early days, the program had accomplished very little. There was always a fear that such a program would destroy the local chapters. But over the years, this proved to be false.

The Program was revived under Grand Basileus Bro. James S. Avery and chaired by Bro. Walter "Crow" Riddick. Under Bro. Riddick's leadership, the number of life members rose from 47 to almost 300. By the time Bro. Riddick entered Omega Chapter in 1977, the number of life members had risen to 1000.

Today, there are over 5000 life members and the program continues to attract more Men of Omega every year.
